Negra Modelo: The Model Mexican
Ok imagine this, it is summer, you can smell a BBQ, you are outdoors with a bunch of good friends… it is time for a beer. Let us think about the type of beer you may have purchased for this event, it is more than likely a crisp, light and refreshing beer that has very ‘drinkable’ qualities. If you live in a warm climate there is a strong chance your beer of choice came from the beautiful country of Mexico.
Whether your choice was Corona, Sol, Dos Equis or any other amazing summertime Cervezas I have no doubt in my mind that after you had a taste of Negra Modelo you would never ever guess it comes from Mexico.
This amazing beer is unlike most other exported cervezas. It is dark, sweet and has qualities that does not exist in other famous Mexican brews. The Negra Modelo stands for ‘Black Model’ and is brewed by a famous brewery called Grupo Modelo or as some of you know it, Corona. The recipe itself is actually Austrian as it was first brewed by a family who migrated to Mexico from Vienna. This European/South American concoction is one that will quickly become a classic to those that try it.
For those of you reading this who already have a stigma against dark beers due to their usually heavy or ‘stodginess’ type of taste then I strongly recommend you treat yourself to this beer. Even though it looks heavy and rich it is rather refreshing and is more sweet than bitter, in saying that, those who do love dark beers please try this beer without that expectation. I truly believe this beer can be enjoyed at any occasion and by most beer drinkers. The only real downside is that after 3 or 4 it may tend to get a little sweet, and be careful if your munching on some bar snacks or anything salty because this is the perfect accompaniment to salty foods and will have you drunk and full without even knowing why.
This beer can also make an amazing rib sauce… but I will save that for another post 🙂
