What I am drinking this week: Grand Ridge Brewers Pils
This week I had the pleasure of cracking the top off a Grand Ridge Valley Brewers Pilsner. Drinking this beer was a great experience. A warning though, it is not for everyone. Pilsner was first created in the Czech Republic and actually pioneered the Bavarian beer brewing style that made German and Austrian beers so famous. With this in mind it is strange that an independent company in Australia would go ahead and attempt a classic Czech style Pils, however they did it well. Not just did they create a great tasting beer that stays true to its European roots but they also made it with no preservatives or chemicals, because as everyone knows, a good beer does not need these nasties, I might also add that they used Czechoslovakian saaz hops and cold fermentation so this beer is indeed as good as it gets when looking for an Aussie made Pils.
I would not recommend this beer for a weekend bender, but I would recommend this to go with a nice meal or a relaxed Sunday arvo drink. The only reason I say this is due to its relatively strong ‘hoppy’ type taste, for those that don’t know what I mean that is the weird after taste some strong British ales usually have, but seasoned beer drinkers will love this. Those of you who enjoy a more lighter, crisper beer can still enjoy this but I suggest only buying a 6 pack as you may get sick of it after a few, however you will go back for more.
Those of you who have not heard about Grand Ridge Valley I highly recommend you check them out. They have a great range but also bring out some awesome limited edition beers. They are known as Australia’s first Craft Brewery and have won heaps of awards. Matter of fact it will be more than likely I will be making quite a few more blogs on their beers because they really do Australia justice when it comes to craft beer production.
